Tennessee drivers will receive newly designed license plates this year. They will be available online, by mail, and in-person as residents complete their annual motor vehicle registration renewals or first-time registration.

For renewals, you will need to wait until the month when you normally renew your tags to get the new ones. The annual fee is $26.50 and $56.50 with personalization, according to the Tennessee government website.

To renew online, visit www.tncountyclerk.com. The new plate will be mailed to you and will include a $5 mailing fee.

You can also renew in-person at the county clerk’s office. The office is located on the first floor of Bedford County Courthouse Annex—the black-and-white building on the west side of the square.

This new license plate design will replace the current plate design launched in 2006. By law, Tennessee normally issues new tags every 8 years, but funds were not available when the last cycle ended in 2014, and so the old tags continued to be used.

In addition to the standard plates, of course, there are a number of specialty plates available, some of which can be seen in the background. These specialty plates cost more, and they raise money for various not-for-profit organizations.
