Throughout his time at Community, Dylan Norris made an impact for the Vikings, both on the mound and at the plate.
That dual-threat not only helped the Vikings push to the Class 2A state sectional this season, but also helped Norris find his way onto a college roster.
Recently, Norris signed his letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Vol State Community College.
“I’m just happy to be here and hope that it all goes well in college,” he said.
Like in high school, Vol State has plans to utilize Norris’ abilities in the field and on the mound.
“They’re going to make me a two-way, playing first and pitching,” he said.
“Dylan comes from a baseball family and his talent and skill level on the field is one of the best I have had the opportunity of coaching,” Viking coach Robbie Davis said.
Norris has been a student of the game for the bulk of his life and has played both for school and travel ball since he was four years old.
Throughout the years, Norris has proved efficient on the mound and at the plate.
Of all his memories playing, Norris’ favorite memory playing the game was beating the Forrest Rockets in a 2-1 victory during his freshman season, which came the night after a 9-0 loss to the Rockets.
“Probably beating Forrest my freshman year was pretty good,” Norris said.
“I have no doubt his best baseball is ahead of him and he has an opportunity of playing the game for a very long time,” Davis said.
Norris is still several months from beginning his freshman season, but will be on a workout and meal plan regiment to help prepare him for college baseball.
“They want me to play in a couple of tournaments and get on a meal plan and they will send me workout plans,” he said.
Norris plans to pursue a degree in business.
Vol State is located in Gallatin and a member of the Western Division of the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association.
