Shelbyville officers were attacked and threatened by a man being forcibly removed from his Mac Street home Friday, according to a Shelbyville Police Department report.

Police chose to remove Tom Luke Arnold, 60, after he allegedly threatened neighbors and stuck a knife into a utility pole. Arnold had caused disturbances in front of businesses on Madison Street and the Shelbyville square and in the courthouse basement earlier in the day, police said.

Lt. Mike Davis pried open a bedroom door after Arnold barricaded himself inside. Chemical spray proved ineffective and an initial shot with a Taser ended up striking an officer's finger.

Arnold eventually came from the room swinging his fists and struck Davis before being somewhat subdued by a second Taser shot.

An EMS crew took Arnold to Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital where he was treated for an arm cut and chest pain. Arnold continued to make threats at the hospital, police said.

Arnold was charged with assault on an officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct and held on $8,500 bond.

**Theft admitted

A man suspected of shoplifting a bottle of brandy from Madison Liquor, Madison Street, allegedly admitted to the theft Sunday after a Shelbyville officer recognized the vehicle and suspect.

Video footage shows one of three men who were in a black Kia Soul vehicle took the $13 bottle Saturday. Officer Michael Taylor saw the vehicle, and a man who looks like the suspect, on Sunday.

Lloyd Everette Gant, 53, of Whiteside Street, allegedly admitted the theft. Gant was charged with shoplifting and served previous warrants for theft under $10,000 and violation of probation. He was being held Monday on $18,000 bond.

**Thefts

-An individual suspected of burglarizing a Bill Russell Road home last week accidentally left their cell phone behind, according to a Bedford County Sheriff's Office report.

The victim isn't sure what was taken or when, but noticed boxes had been moved.

A man and woman in a red Ford Ranger pickup showed up at the home looking for the phone and were told to contact the BCSO.

-A cellphone was stolen from the porch of a Couch Lane home between 6-9:30 p.m. Sunday, police were told.

**Drug charges

-Two bags of marijuana were confiscated from a passenger during a traffic stop Friday night on Noblitt Street.

Christopher Philpott had 12.5 grams hidden in his clothing, a BCSO report said. Officers arrested Philpott initially for disorderly conduct due to allegedly repeatedly yelling obscenities as officers searched the truck in which he was riding.

The driver, Jered Preston Rogers, 24, of Candy Lane, was charged with DUI, speeding and driving without a license, and held on $4,000 bond.

-Seven grams of marijuana were found in a vehicle stopped due to an inoperative brake light.

Officer Dylan Bliss said in his report he smelled marijuana and Brandon Mitchell admitted it was in the center console. Mitchell was cited for simple possession and violation of the vehicle light law.
