Richard Joseph Carter, age 77, of Shelbyville, TN passed suddenly from this life on Monday, September 6th, 2021.
Born October 1st, 1943, in Jacksonville, Florida, he was the son of the late Arnold Richard Schultz of Chicago, Illinois and the late Annis Lorine Hill of Whiteville, North Carolina.
Richard graduated from Whiteville High School in June of 1961. He played and lettered all four years of high school in baseball, football, and basketball. He enlisted in the United States Navy in June of 1963, serving four years in the Vietnam War. He received a National Defense Service Medal from the Navy. He was a member of the Navy Basketball team (The Missiles). Richard owned and operated his own businesses for most of his life in the car industry and the tire business. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing in his spare time.
Mr. Carter is survived by: daughters Heather (Scott) Meares, Brittany (Chris) Bell, Katrina (Brian Davis), grandchildren Anthony (Kira) Meares, Chelsi Parries, Dalton (Amanda) Ray, Trace Bell, Brent Davis and Blake Davis, and 9 great-grandchildren. Carter, Wyatt, Easton, and Gatlin Ray, Sophia and Vincent Meares, and Ashton McDonough.
Graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Round Hill Cemetery with Reverend Garry King officiating.
Visitation will be held at Doak-Howell Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon.
