UNIONVILLE — The Community Viqueens used huge runs in each set to take big leads and went on to sweep the Cascade Lady Champions in straight sets in an intra-county volleyball matchup Monday night.
After winning the Battle of Bedford Saturday, which included a close 2-1 win over the Lady Champs in the semifinals, the Viqueens got the upper hand and did not allow Cascade to take any late leads.
The game was close for the first few points of the opening set before the Viqueens went on their first run.
Community led 5-3 before their net play and setting took over.
With M.J. Simmons serving, the Viqueens went on a 10-0 run and took a 15-3 advantage.
The closest the Lady Champs got was 20-11 before the Viqueens closed out the set with a 25-12 win.
The Lady Champ setting was better in the second set as Cascade stayed within striking range.
The Lady Champs scored three straight points and trailed 15-9 before Community went on its second major run.
With the strong serving of Jacey Collier, the Viqueens scored the next nine points to pull away and win 25-10.
Lizzy Beasley was the server as the Viqueens went on a 9-0 run and took a 10-1 third set lead before the Lady Champs got going.
With good setting and better digs, the Lady Champs used the serving of Caroline Mckamey to go on a 7-0 run of their own and close the Community lead to 11-10 before the Viqueens rebounded with five straight points to go up 16-10.
The Lady Champs could not get closer than 23-18 as the Viqueens closed out the set and match with a 25-18 victory.
