UNIONVILLE – The Community Vikings battled all night to keep the Sequatchie County Indian offense at bay, but the Vikings could not overcome a 20-point Indian second quarter as Community fell 37-0 in a Region 4-3A football game Friday night.
The defenses took center stage as punts ended the first three possessions of the game. 
Community (1-5, 0-2) looked ready to stop the Indians again as an offensive pass interference penalty knocked Sequatchie County back, but a 35-yard pass reception moved the Indians into the red zone. 
Austin Griffith ended the drive with a 6-yard run to put the Indians on the scoreboard. 
The extra point by Nicholas Blevins gave Sequatchie County a 7-0 lead with 2:05 remaining in the opening quarter.
With the injury-riddled Viking offense struggling to find any momentum, the Indians increased their lead in the second quarter.  Payton Campbell dashed 35 yards for the first score of the quarter as Sequatchie County went up 14-0.  The Vikings stopped the Indians on a 3-and-out on the next Sequatchie County possession, but the Indians bounced back as Griffith scampered 55 yards for the score to put Sequatchie County up 21-0 with 4:50 left.
The Indians scored their third touchdown of the quarter on a 6-yard run by Caleb Moffitt. 
The run for two failed as Sequatchie County increased its advantage to 27-0 with 2:10 remaining.
An interception by Jacob Harden of the Vikings as time expired helped to keep the Indians from increasing their lead.
"We got caught a few times with one or two guys not doing what they were supposed to do," Coach Chris Grooms of the Vikings said.
"We had some new guys playing new positions," Grooms added. "They played well, but they just made a couple of mistakes."
The Vikings put up a stand in the third quarter as the Indians reached the Community 1-yard line on a first-and-goal. 
After three Viking defensive plays moved Sequatchie County back to the 4-yard line on fourth down, the Indians converted as Campbell connected with Cavin Gilley on a 4-yard pass as Sequatchie County went up 34-0.
A 29-yard field goal by Blevins with 7:42 left in the final quarter ended the scoring for the night.
With four regular season games left, including two region contests, Grooms knows there is room for the Vikings to make some noise down the stretch.
"I've told them the games you've got to win are at the end," Grooms said. "Injuries have hurt us a little bit, but we'll get back."
Community will entertain Huntland for homecoming next Friday night. Game time is 7 p.m.
