FAYETEVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles tennis program saw even more success over the weekend, this time in the individual department, as Henry Stone and Lilly Smith won their respective District 8-AA Individual Championships on Monday.
With their wins, Stone and Smith also clinched a spot in Regionals in Cookeville as an individual.
Unfortunately, the Eaglettes (13-4, 6-1) saw their season come to a close as a team in the District 8-AA Championship, falling to Lincoln County in a heartbreaker, 4-3, on Monday.
The Falcons and Eaglettes split the doubles’ points with Sophie Ray and Elisa Aldis holding off Maelee Robertson and Ella Morris, 8-6, while Lilly Smith and Addie Berry fell to Kate Pierce and Chloe Gibson, 8-3.
In the singles matches, Lilly Smith and Kate Pierce’s match ended in a 6-6 tie on Court One as the Falcons reached four team points beforehand. Sophie Ray took down Chloe Gibson, 8-6, on Court Two in Ray’s final tennis match of her career. On Court Three, Addie Berry came up just short against Maelee Robertson, 8-6, while Abby Thaxton was unable to gain an advantage in the tiebreak against Ella Morris, falling 11-9 on Court Four. On Court Five, Aldis came up just shy against Aubree Howell, 8-6, as Lincoln County clinched the District Title and a Regional berth in Cookeville.
