PLEASANT VIEW — After trailing by six points at the half on Tuesday night at Sycamore, the Community Viqueens rallied past the Lady War Eagles with a stellar second half and coasted to the 49-39 non-district win.
Sycamore put the Viqueens in an early hole, out-scoring the Purple and Gold 27-21 through the first half.
It was a balanced effort of four Lady War Eagles who combined for the 27 first-half points to cling to the six-point lead at the break.
But fouls became an issue and in the third quarter alone, Community was able to cash in on 8-of-9 free throw attempts to spur on an 18-point third quarter.
Anna Haskins also drilled a pair of three’s as Community rallied for a 39-33 lead by the end of the third.
While the offense wasn’t coming in droves in the fourth, Community did extend its lead with 10 more, including five from senior Haley Mitchell, while holding Sycamore to six points for the second-straight quarter.
Senior M.J. Simmons, along with Mitchell, combined for 30 points to lead the Viqueens to the comeback victory on Tuesday.
Community returns home on Friday night, hosting Huntland in another non-district tilt at 6 p.m. in Unionville.
