Skies full of majesty

Several years back, I walked in the front door as I returned home one evening, and I told my three granddaughters and their friend that there was a full moon that night.
They all ran out onto the front porch and stood on the steps looking up at the sky.
When Kori saw the moon she starting clapping and yelled, “Yay Moon! Good job!”
The four little girls stood there on the porch steps giving the moon a round of applause, and cheering “Yay Moon!
They all thought the moon was doing a good job and that it was awesome.
Then they turned their attention to the stars.
They were loving the evening sky, and we stood out in the cool evening air and enjoyed the beauty of the heavens.
As we stood there looking up toward the sky, I was reminded of Psalm 148, which says:
1 Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights above.
2 Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
3 Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars.
4 Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies.
5 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for at his command they were created,
6 and he established them for ever and ever— he issued a decree that will never pass away.
7 Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths,
8 lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding,
9 you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds,
11 kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth,
12 young men and women, old men and children.
13 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
14 And he has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his faithful servants, of Israel, the people close to his heart.
Praise the LORD.
When I told my wife about Kori shouting praises for the moon, Lynn smiled and said, “Nurses don’t get excited about full moons. They think that all the crazies come out, and the hospitals fill up.”
Well, I get excited looking at the moon, whether it’s full or half or quarter or barely there, and so did my little granddaughters back then. And they still do today.
I have always loved to look at a full moon, or any moon, and all the accompanying stars up there in the heavens.
I know the moon has an impact on the tides and supposedly on the fluids in a human body, and I believe that is all part of God’s plan.
When I would visit the mountains in the West or when I would visit the desert in Arizona, I loved to stand out in the dark of night and gaze heavenward.
It always seems that there are more stars visible in those higher elevations at night, and the moon shines like a spotlight on everything below.
I love to stand there and praise the Lord right along with all the hosts of heaven.
King David wrote in Psalm 8:
1 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?
5 You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
9 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Yay Moon!
Yay Stars!
Yay Lord God!
How majestic is your name in all the earth!
