The play, which began as a novel and ever since has been developed into countless plays and movies, features as its characters the Marsh women-a mother, Marmee, and her four daughters-all equally struggling to cope when the father leaves to serve in the American Civil War.
The many adventures of the Marsh gals living in New England during the temperance movement will no doubt keep the audience entranced as the Unionville troupe sets to the stage for the retelling of this literary masterpiece.
Marmee was likely Alcott's version of "Mommie," literary scholars note. She was non-rhotic; meaning her and her fellow New Englanders did not pronounce their r's. So she would have pronounced that Mommie.
The upcoming Smokestack performance stars Community students Rose Tomlin as "Aunt March," and Bethany Cothran and MaKenzie Martin, who split the role of "Hannah."
Ryan Waterson has the role of "Mr. Brooke," and Jadon Lynch shows his acting talents as the incomparable "Mr. Laurence." Community High students Chloe Armstrong and Grace Neal split the heart-warming performance of Marsh sister "Beth."
Tickets will be available at the door or by calling 685-1418.
