LYNCHBURG — After a closely-contested first half on Tuesday night at Moore County on Tuesday night, the Cascade Champions went for 52 second-half points and claimed their second win of the week, beating the Raiders in Lynchburg, 73-60,
Senior Lucas Clanton provided the fireworks for the Champion offense and went for a game-high 30 points.
Cascade clung to a slim, 11-10 lead after the first quarter, but saw the Raiders knot the game at 22 by halftime on an 11-10 run in the second period.
Out of the intermission, Clanton and fellow senior Jackson Davis provided a one-two punch for Cascade and combined for 20 points in the third period to help reclaim the lead.
It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Cascade was able to put the game away with consistency from virtually everyone who stepped to the free throw line.
In the final eight minutes, the Champs shot a total of 15-of-19 free throw attempts as part of a 27-point quarter to put the game on ice.
Davis, along with Isaac McElroy, joined Clanton in double figures with 13 and 15 points, respectively.
Moore County’s Alex Copeland led the home team with 20 points.
Cascade closes out the busy week on the hardwood on Friday night at Fayetteville City.
