A substance Shelbyville police suspect is marijuana was confiscated from a man at an Anthony Lane apartment complex parking lot Thursday.
The complex manager had police check an unfamiliar vehicle. Officer Chris Vest said he smelled a strong marijuana odor coming from its interior.
Ahmed Abdullahi Osman, 23, of Ridgeway Avenue, the driver, allegedly insisted he had CBD, not marijuana, and handed Vest a small plastic bag containing the green leafy substance.
Vest explained CBD must be kept in its original container rather than unmarked bags, according to law. A glass jar containing more of the substance was found under the passenger seat.
Osman was charged with possession of a schedule VI drug and released on $2,500 bond.
Roberto Antonio Orellana, 35, of East Lane Street had the marijuana in his clothing, police said. He allegedly stomped a meth pipe in an attempt to break it after it fell into his lap as he was being searched. The stomp came after an officer’s order not to touch the pipe.
Orellana was charged with possession of a schbedule II drug and paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, sixth offense driving on a revoked license, registration violation, and having no insurance. He was held on $17,000 bond.
