Swerves, smell lead to drug arrests

Two people were charged with possession of a schedule I drug when heroin was allegedly found in their SUV after a reserve Bedford County deputy noticed it swerving on U.S. 231 North Saturday afternoon.

The driver, Joshua Bryan Smith, 41, who was listed as being from Shelbyville and homeless, and Lauren Ashley Reid, 31, of Gallatin, were both charged with possession of a schedule I drug and paraphernalia. Smith was also charged with third offense driving on a revoked license.

Needles and heroin were found in the SUV, the investigative report said.

Smith posted $6,500 bond and Reid was held on $1,500 bond.

-A man reporting a stolen vehicle was arrested on a drug charge after a bag containing a "crystal-like substance," suspected to be methamphetamine, was visible when he opened his wallet in front of a Shelbyville police officer Sunday morning, according to a report.

Ethan Everette Barrett, 21, of Greystone Way told Officer Ramon Castillo a friend failed to return the vehicle.

Barrett was charged with possession of a schedule II drug and posted $1,000 bond,

-The odor of marijuana led to the arrest of Shire Waller, age and address unavailable, early Saturday during a traffic stop on North Main Street.

Approximately 1.1 grams of marijuana were found in Waller's vehicle by Sgt. Tory Moore after being clocked at 66 mph in a 30 mph zone, police said.

Waller was cited for simple possession of a schedule VI drug, driving without a license and speeding.

**THEFTS

Several items, including two televisions, were stolen from two homes on one property on Walker Road between Wednesday and Friday, a deputy was told.

Possible suspects were listed as two men on the property Thursday who told the owner they wanted to do metal detecting on the property.

Also reported to area authorities:

-A computer, tools and drills were stolen from Shelbyville Auto Sales' detail shop on Prince Street overnight Saturday.

An employee said a lock was damaged to gain entry,

-A karaoke machine was taken from a home in the 1300 block of West Lane Street during November, police were told Tuesday.

-A ladder was stolen last week from an East Lane Street home last week. A suspect was named.

-A 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SUV was stolen Friday morning from outside a Hoover Street home.

The SUV's owner told police she'd left it running to let the battery charge and returned 30 minutes later to discover it was missing.

It was described as two-tone green with a Biden-Harris sticker on the back glass and a "Let Them Vote" bumper sticker.

**SHOPLIFTING

-A suspect allegedly took 11 items with a total value of $95.13 Friday from Walmart, police said.

Amber Smith was cited for shoplifting and allowed to leave due to having children with her,

-William Beyl was arrested for allegedly shoplifting several items Saturday,

-Fidencio Garcia allegedly tried to conceal a flashlight Monday,

No ages and addresses are available for the suspects.
