An early 3-1 lead didn’t hold for Cascade as Marshall County rallied with a big fourth inning to down the Champs, 8-5, on Thursday night.
Starting Cascade pitcher Walker Craig danced around a little trouble in the first inning.
Marshall County advanced a pair of runners in scoring position, but Craig was able to pitch his way out of the jam and strand the runners on base.
In turn, he helped his own cause in the bottom of the inning after Hunter Lemmons found his way on base and scampered around the bags to third.
Craig connected on the first base hit of the night for Cascade, giving the Champs the 1-0 lead by the end of the first.
The Tigers answered with a solo home run in the top of the second to even the score at one apiece.
The Champs responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, which held until the fourth inning when Marshall County were able to plate five.
Cascade never was able to recover after the fourth.
Conner Melson led the Champs at the plate with a 3-for-4 night, while Craig went 2-for-3.
Craig went five innings and gave up eight runs on eight hits, while striking out six before Jake Bates took over and pitched the final two innings.
Bates allowed one hit and two walks, but kept the basepaths clear for the most part by striking out six.
Cascade closes the regular season on Monday, hosting Giles County at 6 p.m., before traveling to Huntland in the regular season finale on Tuesday.
