More than $10,000 worth of tools were stolen from a construction trailer someone attempted to steal overnight Wednesday from a work site on Longview Road, according to a Bedford County Sheriff’s Office report.
The trailer was abandoned in the middle of Smith Road. Deputy Tylar Prosser followed the trailer’s scrape marks from Longview Road to Unionville-Deason Road and Philpot Road.
The thief turned around in the parking lot of Green Hills Baptist Church, then drove on Smith Road before giving up and leaving, marks from the trailer’s frame indicated.
A log chain and ratchet strap found in the roadway were used to pull the trailer, Prosser’s report said. Two other construction sites have been hit this week.
Tools were stolen from a locked work trailer in the 1500 block of U.S. 41A North and from a job site at a locked home on Megan Circle on Tuesday and Wednesday, city and county law enforcement reports said.
Hit and run
A suspect who Shelbyville police say allegedly struck a pedestrian – with his young daughter in his car – then left her behind as he ran on foot into nearby woods was arrested Thursday.
Police were told Gary Wayne Gurley, 25, of Tullahoma got into a fight with a man identified as James Brady at a North Main Street restaurant.
Brady had allegedly turned down a request to drive Gurley, his wife and daughter back to Tullahoma. Gurley allegedly sped away, but came back a few minutes later, argued with Brady in the parking lot, then intentionally knocked him into a ditch with his car as he also struck another vehicle, Officer Brock Horner’s report said.
Brady suffered a deep cut to his head and a possible broken right hand. The car ended up in a culvert. Officers found Gurley in the woods, where he passed field sobriety tests.
Gurley was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment for leaving behind the child, and leaving the scene of an injury accident. He was held on $10,000 bond.
