PLEASANT VIEW — Community got about as hot of a start as it could have asked for in Tuesday night’s non-district clash at Sycamore.
But that hot start couldn’t be sustained into the final three quarters as the War Eagles rallied past the Vikings for a 61-44 win over the Purple and Gold.
Community scored at will against Sycamore in the opening quarter, showcasing the ability to drive to the rim, connect from the perimeter and battle its way to the free throw line.
The Vikings drilled three treys in the opening stanza, with Landon Lovvorn knocking down a pair.
Ramon Hernandez also connected on a pair of free throws and a basket, while Jacob Flannagan added a pair of shots.
By the end of the opening quarter, Community led 21-19.
But as hot as the Vikings were in the opening frame, the offense cooled a bit in the second and Community was only able to add nine points.
Lovvorn added five more, but it was Sycamore who rallied to a slim, 31-30 lead by the half.
That scoring drought slowed even more for Community into the third quarter as the Vikings were only able to muster up a pair of field goals from Lovvorn and Flannagan, while Sycamore steamed ahead with 15 points.
Community did get a bit of a rally going in the fourth, spurred by three-pointers by Lovvorn and Corey Paterick, but the damage was done as Sycamore coasted to the win with a 15-point fourth frame.
Lovvorn led the Vikings with 16 points, while Flannagan added 10.
Sycamore’s Marshall Bega led all scorers with 21 points.
Community returns to its home court on Friday night, hosting Huntland at 7:30 p.m.
