Viqueens back at it after lengthy break

UNIONVILLE – After a busy week that found the Community Viqueens playing matches on three consecutive nights, the Viqueens took an absence from volleyball and were idle for over a week during the horse show break.

The extended break gave the Viqueens a renewed vigor as Community defeated the Cannon County Lionettes in straight sets in a District 9-AA volleyball match Tuesday night.

Community (4-3, 3-2) got off to a quick start and were putting several facets of the game to good use in the opening set.

Outstanding serving helped the Viqueens take an early 10-1 lead.

With effective sets and some dinking sprinkled in for good measure, the Viqueens extended their advantage to 17-3 en route to a 25-6 victory.

It was more of the same for Community in the second set.

The exceptional serving continued along with some slams at the net as the Viqueens moved out to a 14-3 lead before finishing with another 25-6 win.

The Lionettes caught some fire in the final set.  The Viqueens encountered a few serving miscues that helped Cannon County stay close at 12-8.  But Community was never seriously challenged as the Viqueens moved out to a 19-9 lead and ended with a 25-14 win.

Community will take part in the Battle of Bedford Saturday at Cascade.
