UNIONVILLE — The Community Viqueens scored four runs in each of the first two innings and waited out a weather delay to defeat the Fayetteville Lady Tigers 11-0 Monday on Senior Night.
Community (21-8) used back-to-back doubles from seniors Hailey Farrar and Madison Sudberry to highlight a four-hit opening inning as the Viqueens took a 4-0 lead.
There was a long delay between the first and last out of the second inning as weather interrupted play.
Before the delay, the Viqueens used safeties from Abbi Murrill and Audrina Bearden along with three walks to score four more runs to increase their lead to 8-0.
Meanwhile, Farrar kept the Lady Tigers at bay on the mound.
The senior pitched a complete game and allowed just two hits while striking out eight and walking one.
The Viqueens finished the game on the run-rule in the fifth inning.
Senior Emma Bentley led the way with a double as four hits produced three runs.
Murrill led the Viqueen 10-hit attack with three hits while Carlie Blanton added two. Seniors Farrar, Sudberry, and Bentley each finished with a double.
Coach Cam Farrell of the Viqueens had high praise for his seniors.
“They’re a good group of kids and I absolutely hate to lose them,” Farrell said.
“I’m impressed with all of them,” Farrell added. “I love their energy and attitudes and that is what I’m going to miss most.”
Community hosted Cascade in an opening game of the District 7-AA tournament Friday at 6 p.m.
