UNIONVILLE – After a two-week break between matches, the Community Viqueens picked up where they left off by sweeping the Fayetteville Lady Tigers in three sets in a District 6-A volleyball match Thursday night.

Community (6-0, 4-0) held the Lady Tigers to single digits in each set while keeping its unbeaten record intact.

The Viqueens took advantage of strong serving and Fayetteville errors to take control in the opening set.

Halli Smith served five straight points as the Viqueens took a 6-0 lead.

Community stayed consistent throughout the set and went on a 5-0 run to increase its lead to 18-3 en route to a 25-9 win.

Community kept the pressure on by getting into more of a rhythm in the second set.

The serving stayed strong as the Viqueens jumped out to a 12-2 lead.

With M. J. Simmons and Jesa Moore providing several kills at the net, the Viqueens scored nine straight points to go up 21-3 before ending with a 25-7 win.

After winning the first two sets in convincing style, Community kept the foot to the pedal in the last set.

After the Lady Tigers scored the first point, Halli Smith served 20 consecutive points as the Viqueens went up 21-1.

Community let very few shots hit the floor and closed out the match with a 25-3 win.

“I always want them to just be themselves and play as hard as they can every single match,” Viqueen coach Tiffany Klages.

“I was nervous because we didn’t practice during the break,” Klages added.

“We just had two practices to get ready for tonight.”

“I’m so glad to have this district win,” Klages said.

The Viqueens have not dropped a set in their six wins.

Community closes out its regular season home slate Monday night with a doubleheader on Senior Night.

The Viqueens play Shelbyville Central at 4:30 p.m. before taking on LaVergne at 6:30 p.m.

Six Viqueen seniors will be honored before the LaVergne match.
