MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (11-1-1, 1-0) won their seventh-consecutive game of the young season at Blackman (3-5, 0-1) on Tuesday night, 5-0.
Community pitching gave up just one hit all night, highlighted by another dominant outing from Annie Prince. Prince picked up the win, going 4.0 innings with nine strikeouts and two walks with no hits allowed on 68 pitches. Taylor Wessner came on in relief for the final three innings, giving up the only hit allowed by the Viqueens – a single – from Blackman’s left-fielder, Jessica Kinderdine. Wessner struck out two while walking one and now allowing a single run on 39 pitches.
Blackman’s Madison Keel got the start in the circle, throwing 3.0 innings and giving up four runs with two earned on three hits and two walks while striking out one batter on 47 pitches. Blackman committed a pair of errors in the field, allowing the Viqueens to tack on a pair of extra runs. Lilliana Acosta came on in relief in the fourth inning, closing out the final 4.0 innings while giving up one earned run on two hits and a walk with a pair of strikeouts on 61 pitches.
Neither team scored in the first inning, but in the top of the second, the Viqueens got on the board with a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. Community tacked on two more in the top of the fourth with no outs to chase Keel from the game, and then tacked on one more insurance run in the top of the sixth to finalize their lead at 5-0.
Haylee Webb led the visitors at the plate with two of the five total hits the Viqueens tallied on the night. Webb went 2-4 with a double and she came around to score both times she got on base. Wessner, batting sixth – one spot behind Webb – went 0-2 with a walk but got on base a second time via an error and came around to score both times she ended up on the basepaths. Carlie Blanton drew a pair of walks and had a sac-fly to drive home a run, and she too came around to score once. Prince tallied two RBI on a sac-fly as well. Victoria Wells, who came on to hit following Prince’s removal from the game, laced an RBI double in her only at-bat of the game in the sixth inning.
In all, Community struck out just three times as a team despite only recording five hits total. The Viqueens pick up their 11th win of the young season and are scheduled to travel to Moore County on Thursday with first-pitch set for 6:00 p.m.
