Viqueens fall short in OT

HUNTLAND — A back-and-forth non-district battle between Huntland and Community spilled into overtime.
Despite the heroics from senior M.J. Simmons, who went for a team-high 21 points, the host Lady Hornets were able to escape the Viqueens with the 60-52 win.
The Viqueens led by by three after the first quarter, only for the lady Hornets to rally and cut the Purple and Gold lead to two by halftime.
After the intermission, the Lady Hornets got a combined 15 points from Jacy May and Logan McLennan to leave the game deadlocked after three quarters.
Both teams went for 11 points in the fourth quarter, but fouls became an issue for the Viqueens as both Haley Mitchell and Simmons fouled out in the later moments of the game.
Simmons accounted for the only basket in the overtime period, while Huntland was able to knock down 10 to secure the win.
Mitchell joined Simmons in double figures and added 15 for the Purple and Gold, while Zoey Dixon chipped in nine.
Community connected on eight three-pointers in the contest, with Mitchell and Dixon hitting three apiece.
Community was back in action on Thursday night, however results were unavailable at press time.
