LYNCHBURG, Tenn – The Community Viqueens took on long-time rivals in the Moore County Lady Raiders during the first day of Moore County Classic at Moore County High School on Friday night.

Both teams had a slow start. Anna Haskins, Alyssa White and Brailey Whitehead all collected 2 apiece to start the Viqueens scoring. Moore County’s Katy Fletcher hit two baskets and sank four free throws to help the Lady Raiders pull ahead in the first quarter 11-6.

Haskins and White continued to lead the team in scoring with three and four points consecutively for Community, but couldn’t get the lead back from the Lady Raiders. Moore County added 15 more to their tally and led 26-13 over the Viqueens at halftime.

Moore County scored 25 of their total points in the third quarter, 10 of which were by leading scorer, Ellie Graham. The Lady Raiders also dropped in 3 of their 5 total three-pointers this quarter. White tossed in 4 points and Haskins added 3 for the Viqueens, but by the end of the quarter Community had fallen behind 30 points with the score being 51-21 in the Lady Raiders favor.

White tossed in two more to end the game with 12 points in the fourth quarter for the Viqueens to lead the scoring while Haskins ended with eight points. Graham was the high scorer for Moore County finishing with 16 points.

In the second game of the Moore County Classic, the Community Viqueens took on the Battle Creek Grizzles from Spring Hill on Saturday afternoon.

The Viqueens started out strong by scoring 18 points in the first quarter and holding the Lady Grizzlies to just six. Mattie Maxey took charge in the first quarter by scoring seven of her eight total points while Anna Haskins hit two buckets and a free throw for five more for the Viqueens.  The scoreboard at the end of the first quarter showed Community leading 18-6.

Savannah Pearson and Brooklyn Yoes both dropped in three-pointers to pull the Viqueens even farther ahead during the second quarter. Community scored 23 points in the quarter and held the Grizzlies to just three with both a full-court press and man-to-man defense. The Viqueens had a commanding lead by the halftime buzzer, 41-9.

Battle Creek’s Kalynn Martin tacked on five points in the third by way of a two and three-pointer, but it wasn’t enough to touch Community’s lead which had grown to 51-18. Taylar Wessner chalked up one three for the Viqueens for a total of 13 this quarter.

Pearson tossed in four more to bring her total to 11 for the game. Haskins also ended the game with 11 points and Yoes had a total of nine points for the Viqueens. Community pulled out the win 61-20.

“It was nice to come in and get a win,” Viqueens Head Coach Cody Pierce said postgame, “We needed it as a team. We have been working hard and we still have some work to do before our last district game.”

Community improves to 5-8 with their next game coming on the road against Mount Pleasant on Friday at 6:00pm.
