GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Community Viqueens (16-2-2, 1-0) extended their winning streak to five games after sweeping a doubleheader against the Wicksburg Panthers (AL), 7-4 after 4.2 innings, and the Boaz Pirates (AL), 2-1, in Day Two of the Gulf Shores Classic to finish 4-0 at the invitational on Wednesday.

In the first game of the day against Wicksburg (24-6, 4-0), the Viqueens jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning against Panthers’ starting pitcher Dahlia Ganz. Ganz lasted just the one inning, giving up four earned runs on six hits while throwing 26 pitches.

Kynlee Holland came on in relief to pitch the final 3.0 innings, giving up three runs – two earned – on five hits while striking out three batters on 55 pitches.

Community tacked on one run in the second and third innings to grow the lead to 6-0 before the Panthers finally began to find some offense against the Viqueens’ ace in the top of the fourth, scratching across a pair of runs to trim the lead to 6-2.

Annie Prince got the start in the circle for Community, throwing a complete 4.2 innings while giving up four earned runs on four walks and just three hits –including a home run by Anleigh Wood – while striking out seven batters on 104 pitches. Wood recorded two of the three total hits surrendered by Prince, finishing 2-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.

After the Viqueens got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, Wicksburg tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-4 with two outs. However, the game was then called due to the 90-minute tournament time constraint, allowing Community to pick up their 15th win of the year.

Anna Haskins went 2-3 in the leadoff spot, slapping a pair of doubles and coming around to score both times. Mattie Maxey went 1-3 with a double and one RBI while Gracie Daniel finished 2-3 at the plate with one RBI of her own. Carlie Blanton added a hit as well, going 1-3 with another RBI. Alana Tate went a perfect 2-2 with a double and one RBI while Haylee Webb also went 2-2 with a pair of RBIs. Alana Clark went 1-2 at the plate as well as the Viqueens’ bats tallied 11 hits in total.

Game two against the Boaz Pirates (14-5, 4-0) was a pitchers’ duel, and the Viqueens came out on top, 2-1.

Taylor Wessner pitched a gem for Community, going 6.0 innings and giving up just one unearned run on seven hits while striking out three batters on 76 pitches.

For Boaz, Grier Maples went a complete 7.0 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out eight on 119 pitches.

Neither team scored in the first inning, but Community broke the seal in the top of the second, driving home a run to take an early lead, 1-0. After that, both Wessner and Maples proceeded to throw nothing but shutout innings until the bottom of the sixth inning when Lexie Bennett drove home Bailey Lusk from first on an RBI-triple to tie the game at 1-1. Wessner was able to strand the go-ahead run on third, and her offense took advantage in the top of the seventh.

The Viqueens retook the lead for good in the top of the seventh, 2-1, by scoring the final run of the game. Boaz would not get a chance to respond in the home half as once again the 90-minute time constraint kicked in, ending the game once Maples got the final out of the inning.

Community finishes a perfect 4-0 at the 2025 Gulf Shores Invitational, picking up their 16th win of the season on the final day. The Viqueens return to their home state and are scheduled to travel to Richland on Tuesday with first pitch set for 5:00 p.m.
