Viqueens Run-Rule Cannon County on Senior Night For 25th Win of the Season

UNIONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (25-3-2, 8-0) closed out the District 9-AA regular season against Cannon County (3-11, 2-6), 11-0, on Tuesday night. 

Taylor Wessner, one of the two seniors on the Viqueens’ roster, threw a five-inning no-hitter with four strikeouts on 49 pitches to secure the win in the circle.

Kathryn Trail started in the circle for the Lionettes, tallying 4.0 innings of work. Trail gave up 11 runs with nine earned on 12 hits and one walk with no strikeouts on 53 pitches.

The Viqueens’ offense launched two home runs with Mattie Maxey hitting her team-leading sixth of the season along with Wessner tallying her third round-tripper. 

Community plated four runs in the bottom of the first to get the scoring started early, and followed that up with two more runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead.

Trail managed to put up a zero in the third inning, but then the Viqueens plated five more runs in the bottom of the fourth to grow the lead to 11-0. After Wessner set down Cannon County in order in the top of the fifth, the run-rule went into effect, securing Community’s 25th win on the season.

Anna Haskins led off going 2-3 at the plate, Mattie Maxey went 2-3 with three RBIs and a home run, and Carlie Blanton finished 1-2 with two RBIs. Haylee Webb went 1-2 with an RBI and a walk, Gracie Daniel went 1-3  with an RBI, and Wessner finished 1-3 with two RBIs and a homer. Alana Tate went 2-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, and Annie Prince finished 2-2 with a double.

Community now awaits the start of the District 9-AA Tournament as the number-one overall seed, scheduled to take on the winner of Cannon County-Grundy County on Tuesday, May 6th, in Unionville.
