William Leon “Bill” Ballinger, age 72, of Unionville passed from this life Sunday, October 24, 2021 at his home surrounded by loved ones after an 11-year battle with IPF.
Bill was born May 24, 1949, in Mattoon, IL, to the late Charles A. and Myrna Garner Ballinger. He was a retiree of GM after 30 years of employment. His job took his family to several stops through Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri, before settling down in Bedford County, TN. He married his wife Dianne in 1968, they raised 2 sons. He enjoyed riding his Harley and restoring classic street rods. He loved his family; they formed a tight family unit, spending time together, working on projects and riding motorcycles. He was a member of the former El Bethel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by: son, Jeremy Ballinger; and grandson, Derrick Ballinger.
Survivors include: devoted wife, Lola Dianne Cox Ballinger; sons, Matthew (Erin) Ballinger of MO, and Anthony “Tony” (Stephanie) Ballinger of Unionville; grandchild, William, Justin, Alexus, Devlin Ballinger and Logan Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Rayden, Carson, and Sophie; sister, Connie (Bill) Hatten of IL; brother, Mark (Teressa) Ballinger of IN; also many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Believers Worship Center with Pastor Ivan Sheffield officiating. Visitation will be held prior to service Saturday, starting at 12:00 p.m. at the church, 5237 Murfreesboro Rd. College Grove, TN 37046.
