Judge Wyatt Nowlin Taylor died on October 25, 2021, after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ruth Wilson Taylor and Jesse Nowlin Taylor, and his only sibling, William R. (Bob) Taylor. Survived by his four children - Sherri (Roy) Chockley, Michelle (Stephen) Hindman, Juli (Mike) Rice, and Wyatt (Carey) Taylor - 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, one nephew.
Nowlin was a lifelong dog lover and he is also survived by his beloved rescue, Tabby. Nowlin was a proud native son of Bedford County and served his community and fellow citizens in many ways. His fondest memories were of working with his dad at R.A. Taylor & Son (later Taylor’s Food Store) during his youth and through college. He was an MTSC graduate, served in the U.S. Army for three years, and worked at Arnold Engineering for several years before (and while) attending Nashville School of Law. He was a licensed attorney as of 1964 with a private practice in Shelbyville, General Sessions and Juvenile Court Judge for 18 years, City Judge and City Attorney, Chairman of Bedford County Ambulance Authority and also served as Chairman of the Bedford County Election Commission for 10 years. Nowlin was an active member of the Kiwanis Club for over 40 years and several other civic organizations. He attended First Presbyterian Church for many years, then became an active member of First Baptist Church in 1997.
Visitation and services will be held at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel on Saturday, October 30, 2021. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and a memorial service will begin at 12:00 P.M. to be conducted by Jeff Rasnick.
In lieu of flowers, donations to New Destiny Dog Rescue (P.O. Box 42, Wartrace, TN 37183) would be appreciated.
