Anne Derryberry Carter, 61, wife of Daryl W. Carter, died October 24, 2019, in her home.

Born November 27, 1957 in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Susan Thompson Derryberry of Shelbyville and the late Dr. John S. Derryberry. Mrs. Carter was a graduate of Ashland Community College and the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, where she received her BSN, Cum Laude. She was employed as a Pre-Op nurse at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Anne was a member and elder of South Elkhorn Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Lexington, Kentucky. She was well known for her specialty, iced lemon cookies, which she baked for the annual Fall Festival. Anne was also a past co-treasurer of the Paul Laurence Dunbar High School Marching Band. One of Anne’s favorite hobbies and passions was knitting – you could always find her sitting somewhere with a ball of yarn and needles, working on a new project – usually making it for someone else.

Survivors other than her mother and husband include one daughter, Lesley Suzanne Carter; two sisters, Susan “Sue Sue” (Bill) Bounds, Dallas, TX and Martha (Jeff) Condra, Birmingham, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Monday, October 28 at South Elkhorn Christian Church in Lexington. A graveside committal service took place Tuesday, October 29, at Lexington Cemetery.

Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington handled arrangements.

Memorials can be sent to the Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates.
