Funeral services for Ms. Betty Jane Wilhoite Wright Lamb, age 89, of the Pleasant Grove Community, will be held at noon, Saturday June 24, 2023 at Doak Howell Funeral Home. Brother Jimmy Gray and Brother Tyler Shoemaker will be officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery. Ms. Betty passed from this life on Thursday June 22, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.  Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service beginning at 10 A.M.

A native of Bedford County, Betty was the daughter of Edward and Christine Wilhoite, sister; Frances, and brother James, who both preceded her in death.  She was married to Charles (Buck) Wright for 34 years, but lost him to bone cancer in 1984.  She was a widow for over 9 years. She married Jesse W. Lamb in 1994 and gained a great extended family.  She was widowed again when she lost him to lung cancer in 2020.  She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Betty Mallard Wright and granddaughter Chasity Chantae Lamb.

In the fall of 2020, Betty joined “The Curtis House”; a place she always knew was waiting for her if she ever needed it.  Her oldest granddaughter became her caregiver and she formed a sweet, unexpected friendship with her canine friend Carlie Jane.

Betty worked many years for Empire Pencil Co. where she made many wonderful friends.  She attended Calvary Baptist Church and gained many wonderful friendships there as well. Two of her dearest friends, Aleitha and Susan, have always been there for her over all of these years.  She loved going to church and did so until her health declined and it became difficult to walk, sit, and go much of anywhere. At that time she was faithful to be in her recliner on Sunday ready to watch her preachers on TV.   Betty was always a very petite, classy, and independent woman.  She was known by many for her kind hospitality and her wonderful “Sunday Dinners” that she cooked for many, many years.  If you were fortunate enough to enjoy one of these on any given Sunday, you were blessed. Many people passed through her kitchen throughout the years.  She was a wonderful cook, and was known especially for her cornbread.

She is survived by a great big family that will miss her.
