A Bible with methamphetamine hidden within was left at Bedford County Jail for a murder suspect Monday, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office said.

The King James version of the Bible was dropped off by a woman, who investigators said they think they have identified, about 2:30 p.m. Three inmates including Steven Lokey, charged in the June 20 slaying of Adrienne Cox at her Neeley Avenue residence, and Jeffrey Stokes, being held on drugs and weapons charges following a May 20 raid at a Butler Street home, were to have received the Bible, Sgt. Trey Green’s report said.

Jailer Ronnie Prince noticed the Bible “felt odd,” discovered its spine had been peeled and found crystal methamphetamine in a bubble gum wrapper.

The woman who delivered the Bible left without identifying herself when asked, but a likely suspect was determined by the BCSO from looking through Facebook accounts.
