Bobby R. Mallard, age 83, of Shelbyville, passed from this life at his home surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, June 11, 2023 after an extended illness.

A native of Bedford County, Bobby was born April 27, 1940, to the late Freeman & Dorothy Dye Mallard and raised by adopted parents, the late Irvin & Anne Lytle Brannon. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by: brothers, Leonard, Thurman and Carl Mallard, Bill O’Brien, Alfred Stone, Raymond, John and Richard Brannon; and sisters, Mary Jane Howard, Mary Helen Mallard, Betty Mallard Wright, Sara Mason and Irene Jacobs.

Bobby worked at Dixie Service Station when he was a young man and then worked at Uni-Royal and later at Empire Pencil (Newell Rubbermaid) from where he retired after 36 years of employment. He was a hard worker and was always willing to help others. He loved to hunt, fish and watch all types of sports on TV. He was a collector of signs and antiques. He enjoyed raising tomato plants and would always say “do not plant tomato plants until after Mother’s Day. He also thoroughly enjoyed mowing his lawn (sometimes 2-3 times a week) and mowing for others.

Bobby was a member of Philippi Independent Methodist Church where he was a trustee and willing to help with anything that needed to be done.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 42 years, Wanda Tucker Mallard; daughter, Laurie Mallard Allen; step-daughter, Laurie Finley (Mark) Brannon; step-son, Greg (Linda) Allison; grandsons, Ryan Allen, Keith Boyce and Carson Taylor; son-in-law, Doug Allen; brothers, William (Shelley) Gazaway, Jesse Crosslin, William (Rhonda) Brannon, George Brannon; sisters, Betty (Tommy) Foster, Sheila Spain and Faith (Larry) Lunsford; along with several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with pastor Lester Hawkins and Brother Tim Nowlin officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held prior to funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
