BELL BUCKLE — After a narrow loss to the Warren County Pioneers where they came close to leveling the game at the end on Monday night, the Cascade Champions bounced back in a big way on Thursday night with an 8-1 win over the Cannon County Lions on senior night.
Despite facing a 2-0 deficit at halftime of Monday night’s contest, the Champions fought back quickly at the start of the second half as senior forward Sam Alkhanshli found the back of the net just two minutes in.
The goal came after Ivan Draine took possession near midfield, found a streaking Gabriel Perez-Rubio down the right side of the pitch, and Perez-Rubio sent a grounded cross to the far post where Alkhanshli patiently waited for the finish.
Champion goalie Nick Harris totaled seven saves on the night with a good portion coming in the second half to keep his team in the game.
His efforts were nearly rewarded in the final 10 minutes of the contest as Isaac Chapa was inches away from scoring the leveler two separate times.
The first of the two came after Draine slithered his way inside the box from the right side before making a sly pass to Chapa on the near post, but Chapa was unable to convert for a goal.
Cascade controlled the possession for most of the second half, but ultimately fell 2-1 in the end.

Cascade: Sam Alkhanshli (38:00, second half).
