City ready for July 4th

City Councilman Gary Haile will start off Shelbyville’s annual July 4 Celebration at H.V. Griffin Park with the singing of the National Anthem.
Shelbyville has conducted this event for several years and it continues to be well-attended. Park officials say they hope it draws another large crowd this year.
Activities begin at 5 p.m., on Independence Day. Shelbyville Parks and Recreation officials have planned for food trucks, craft vendors and inflatables for all ages (free.)
Events include a “battle axe throw” and a “nuclear wipeout.” There’s also to be a 70-foot obstacle course.
Bingo games for those looking to relax a little will be offered. Prizes will be given.
Sports-minded fols might enjoy games of corn hole, volleyball or stick-it archery.
The band UTOPIA will be playing between 5 and 9 p.m.
Fireworks round out the evening, beginning at 9 p.m.
