Council & planning commission talk future development
During the City
workshop Thursday with
Shelbyville Planning
Commission, new City
housing developments
were discussed. Though
these pictured (back of
Winner’s Circle) are grandfathered in within the current comprehensive plan,
the planning commission
and Council discussed the
right to change any future
such development regulations under its new plan,
which is expected to be
approved later this summer. There are some state
regulations which cannot
change and that was also
discussed.

Shelbyville
Planning Commission and
City Council anticipate
some potential growth
spurts on the town soon.
So the public was invited
in Thursday afternoon at
the Rec Center to view the new plans. Several realtors looked at the diagrams
displayed.
Dawn Gonzalez, a member of the Shelbyville Planning Commission since 2019, discusses with Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Director Mike Alsup how the Shelbyville Parks Department will fit into the new comprehensive plan.
With the comprehensive plan still up for discussion,
Melissa Peagler, planning services manager with Volkert,
Inc., of Nashville, explained some of the suggested
district descriptions, shown, and the purpose for being
included in the comprehensive plan. Just what the face of
Shelbyville will look like as a result of its ongoing future
development was discussed. Planning commission members Dawn Gonzalez suggested Thursday that there be a
design overlay, at least for some of the district development.
