Joel Dwight Clanton, age 71, of Shelbyville, passed away April 8, 2024, at his home, under the loving care and comfort of his family and Gentiva Hospice.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 3 PM Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Pastor Jay Pope will officiate. The family will receive visitors 1 PM until service time Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born, November 25, 1952, in Bedford Couty, to the late William Vernie Clanton and Mary Bell Harrison Clanton. A lifelong resident of Shelbyville, he was the owner of Clanton Custom Machines. A very talented machinist, he designed and built custom equipment for many well-known industries. He also enjoyed helping out his friends and neighbors repair and make parts for their needs.
An avid fisherman, Dwight enjoyed fishing with his son and grandchildren, a Clanton family tradition, passed down through many generations. He enjoyed NASCAR, dirt track racing, and football. He was an active member of Kingdom Cultivation Ministries.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Doyle Clanton.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jeffress Clanton; children, Mary Beth Clanton and James Bradley Clanton; grandchildren, Shelby Harmon, Emalye Beasley, Katey (Lane) Allen, and Joel Burton; great grandchildren, Gunner Harmon and Garrad Beasley; sister, Dorothy (Ezralee) Swing; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to Kingdom Cultivation Ministries, 701 Kingree Road,
Shelbyville, or the Bedford County Cancer Society.
Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
