Eagles’ offense explodes in semis

WINCHESTER — Two short months ago, Shelbyville Central was staring down an 0-7 start to the 2023 campaign.
After Thursday night’s 10-4 win over District 6 4-A host Franklin County, the Eagles are now playing for a district championship and remain unbeaten in the winner’s bracket.
Shelbyville grabbed the early 1-0 lead when Carston Williams ground into a RBI fielder’s choice.
That lead held until Franklin County plated three runs in the top of the fourth inning on a RBI double and two RBI singles.
The Rebs padded their lead with a fourth run in the top of the fifth inning on another RBI single, bumping the lead to 4-1.
And then the the Eagles came to the plate.
The Eagles batted around in the fifth inning and hammered Franklin County pitching to the tune of nine runs on six hits.
William Bobo, Nick Johnson, Kyler Trice, Caleb Molder, and Brody Lovvorn all connected on RBI singles in the inning, while Jaquai Beverly slugged an RBI double to left.
Bobo went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the win, while Lovvorn also had a two-hit night with a pair of runs driven in.
The Eagles connected on three doubles, with Nick Johnson, Beverly and Lovvorn all collecting two-baggers.
On the mound, Palmer Edwards got the nod and the start for the Golden’ Eagles and pitched four innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, while striking out five.
Bobo worked the final three innings in relief to earn the win and struck out three while only giving up two hits.
The Eagles will play in the district tournament championship on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Tomahawk Stadium in Winchester.
