Eaglettes Bounce Back on Senior Night to Complete Season Sweep of Spring Hill

Posted

The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes pulled away from Spring Hill in the second half at home on Senior Night in a much-needed bounce-back district win, 46-30.

Shelbyville was led by seniors Lily Brown and Paige Blackburn who scored 15 and 13 points respectively in the final home game at Rick Insell Gymnasium of their regular-season high school careers.

Spring Hill only had three players on the scoresheet, including Alayzia Harrison and JZ Brashear scoring 14 and 11 points respectively.

Spring Hill was able to keep it close in the first quarter, ending the opening period tied with the Eaglettes at 9-9.

However, Shelbyville would find their stride on both ends of the court in the second quarter, holding the visitors to just four points in the frame while scoring 16 themselves to go into the halftime locker room up 25-13. Blackburn hit two threes for six of her ten first-half points to lead the Eaglettes at the break.

In the second half, it was more of the same for the hosts. Lily Brown took the reins from Blackburn in the second half, scoring nine of her game-high 15 points in the final 16 minutes.

The Eaglettes’ defense continued to play at a high level, and the hosts would extend their lead to 40-22 entering the final frame.

Shelbyville would coast in the fourth quarter to a much needed 46-30 win, putting an end to their five-game home losing streak to send their seniors out with a bang.

Spring Hill falls to 10-16 (2-6) and will wrap up district play on Friday at home against Coffee County.

The Eaglettes improve to 14-10 (3-6) on the year and will hit the road on Friday for a rematch against Columbia Central, LIVE on WLIJ 98.7 and AM 1580 starting at 5:45 p.m.
