Eaglettes hammer Franklin Co. in tourney

SHELBYVILLE — Lilly Brown had a five-hit, two home run and seven RBI night to lead Shelbyville Central past Franklin County on Friday night, 16-8.
The Eaglettes hammered the Rebelettes’ pitching staff to the tune of 17 hits.
The Eaglettes built a 6-0 lead before Franklin County plated its first run in the top of the third.
A seven-spot in the top of the fourth allowed Franklin County to take an 8-6 lead over the Eaglettes, only for Sammie Brown to smack a RBI double and Dejah Lineberger to score Brown on a RBI single to tie the game.
From there, the Eaglettes scored eight unanswered runs to double up the visitors.
After two outs to start the bottom of the fifth, Kaydence Rippy and Lilly Brown launched back-to-back solo homers to re-take the lead.
The Eaglettes slammed the door shut with six more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Lilly Brown’s grand slam to plate the final four runs of the game for Shelbyuville.
Franklin County had its share of moments against Shelbyville, connecting for 10 hits and smacking a home run of its own, but Shelbyville just had too much firepower in its lineup.
Rippy went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Alyvia Smith went 1-for-5, but collected three RBIs.
From the pitcher’s circle, Lineberger got the start and went 3 1/3 innings, giving up eight runs on seven hits, while striking out one.
Sammie Brown went 3 2/3 innings in relief to collect the win and gave up just three hits and striking out a pair.
