Fleeing suspect breaks Taser's wires

Posted

A suspect who allegedly broke a Bedford County deputy’s Taser before running into a wooded area will be charged when found with resisting arrest, a report said.

David Nowlin had been tased by Sgt. Clyde Boyce after allegedly running away during a handcuff attempt. Nowlin was found hiding under a tarp at a Warners Bridge Road home by Boyce, who knew of active warrants against him.

Boyce tased Nowlin in the back as he ran away. Nowlin fell afterwards, but got up after the charge and refused an order to lie on his stomach with hands behind his back. A second attempt was ineffective as Nowlin broke the Taser's wires before fleeing again, Boyce’s report said.

Trailer stolen

Another in a series of trailer thefts has been reported.

A 48-foot enclosed trailer, white with red trim and “juicy” painted on its side, filled with “random stuff” was taken from a Warners Bridge Road residence around midday Tuesday, a sheriff’s office report said.

Shoplifting charge

A shoplifting suspect allegedly pushed a full shopping cart through Walmart on Monday, then took $173 worth of items, placed them into bags in the men’s clothing department and attempted to leave without paying, police said.

Ramsey Moore Jr. allegedly tried to take clothing and household items but was stopped by the loss prevention team. Moore was cited for shoplifting and allowed to leave.

Drug arrests

Three guests’ complaints about a marijuana odor led to the arrest of two suspects on drug charges Monday at Microtel, North Main Street.

Officers Bryan Lashwood and LaTerra Holt searched the room and found 19 grams of marijuana and a grinder Amy Michelle Bumbalough, 37, of Mac Street told police belonged to her. She was charged with possession of a schedule VI drug and paraphernalia and held on $11,500 bond.

Holt was pulling identification from the wallet of James Robert Plemons, 43, of White Street and found a small bag containing 0.7 grams of methamphetamine, the report said. Plemons was charged with possession of a schedule II substance and held on $4,500 bond.

Road rage

A woman angry because a driver stopped in front of her on Madison Street left space for another motorist to pull from a parking lot got out and spat on her, police were told Tuesday afternoon.

The victim said she motioned the angry driver around her after she began blowing her horn. The angry driver got out of her car and, when the victim rolled down her window to tell her to go around, began spitting on her. She put the window up and the assailant continued spitting.

The suspect was described as “either Hispanic or mixed race” in the police report and driving a white, newer model Nissan Maxima or Altima.
