Golden Eagles Complete Comeback to Pick Up First District Win Against Lincoln County

Posted

The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles finally found their first district win of the season at home against Lincoln County on Friday night, 60-47, thanks to a monster effort from Tae’ Shawn Shelton.

The Eagles had breakout games from Jack Conditt, who finished with 18 points, and Shelton, who finished with a game-high 21 points, including 17  in the second half.

The Falcons were led by Kyle Kelly, who finished with a team-high 19 points, but 14 of them came in the first half.

The Eagles were looking to get revenge against the Falcons on their home court after a 65-51 loss back on January 27, and revenge is exactly what they were able to find in the second half.

After trailing 8-7 at the end of the first quarter, Lincoln County took off in the second period with Kelley scoring seven of the team’s 15 points to take a slim 22-19 lead into the halftime locker room.

However, the second half would be a completely different story. Conditt and Shelton would combine for 12 of the team’s 22 points in the third quarter alone to take a 41-37 lead into the final frame to set Shelton up for his monster fourth quarter.

The senior forward was able to score seemingly at will in the final eight minutes against a struggling Falcons defense. He scored 13 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter alone, and the Falcons just had no answer offensively.

The Eagles’ defense bowed up in the fourth, holding Lincoln County to just 10 points in the period, as the home side ran away late with the 60-47 home victory to even the season series.

Lincoln County now sits at 4-19 (2-5) after rebounding with a 62-55 home win against Coffee County. The Falcons are scheduled for a rematch in Manchester on Tuesday night.

Shelbyville Central improves to 5-17 (1-5) and are set to take on a very solid Columbia Central team on Monday in the first night of a back-to-back in District 9-AAAA play, LIVE on WLIJ 98.7 and AM 1580 starting at 5:45 p.m.
