The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes softball team has hit the ground running this season. Over the past two games, their offense has put up 15 runs in each game.
First came a 15-0 drubbing of Franklin County that ended after only three innings on Thursday. After not scoring in the first inning, Shelbyville’s bats came alive in a big way in the second to the tune of nine runs.
In the third, the Eaglettes put up six more runs, but this time they were helped out by some sloppy Franklin County defensive plays. Six errors in the inning meant that not a single run scored was earned, but after Shelbyville’s Alissa Rob kept Franklin County off the board again in the third, the Eaglettes officially picked up their second win of the season.
Sophomore Ali Rippy led Shelbyville with 3 RBIs, followed closely behind with October Dresback, Bailey Dunn, and Ja’Miya Anderson collected 2 RBIs apiece.
In their next game at Warren County on Tuesday night, Shelbyville’s offense scored 15 runs on 13 hits, but the Lady Pioneers collected 20 hits that resulted in 21 runs of their own.
Senior Lily Brown led the Eaglettes with 4 RBIs while going 3-5 at the plate with 2 singles and a double. Sammie Brown, who started in the circle, also went 4-5 with 4 singles, and she came around to score all four times she reached base.
Shelbyville took a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the third inning, but that is when the Warren County bats really started to get going. They scored three runs to take a 6-5 lead, but the Eaglettes responded with three runs of their own to retake the lead at 8-6 heading into the home half of the fourth inning.
Franklin County exploded for eight runs in the fourth, taking the lead for good even after the visitors fought back with five runs of their own to trim the lead to 14-13. However, in the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Pioneers pushed across seven more runs to extend the lead to 21-13.
Shelbyville could only muster up two more runs in response, and Warren County took home the 21-15 win to hand the Eaglettes their first loss of the season.
