Funeral services for Joe Warren “JW” Nickens, age 98, of the Mt. Lebanon Community, Marshall County, will be held at 1:00pm Monday, March 18, 2024, at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church with Chester Slayton officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopper Cemetery. Mr. Nickens passed from this life Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at NHC Lewisburg following an extended illness.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 am Monday, at the church, prior to the funeral service at 1:00 pm.

Born July 20, 1925 in Marshall County, JW was the son of the late William Nickens & Flora Bell Pyland Nickens. Mr. Nickens was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years Nannie Mae Keele Nickens.

JW was a lifelong farmer and by trade was the owner operator of Nickens’ Farm Machinery Repair and served the Bedford and Marshall County communities for over 60 years. On his farm he mainly row cropped, cut hay and his favorite thing, beekeeping. In his earlier years he and his late wife, raised and butchered hogs. He was a member (oldest charter member) and Deacon of Belfast Baptist Church and was a former Deacon and member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Rich Creek Volunteer Fire Department and the Rock Creek Bible Society.

He is survived by extended family members that include cousins and nephews.

Special recognition to Bro. Kent Sweeton and sister Connie Beaver for their loving care provided to JW during the last few years of his life.
