The Cascade Lady Champions, behind Brianna Horn’s big day both in the circle and at the plate, picked up their first District 9-AA win of the season on the road against the Grundy County Lady Yellowjackets, 16-1, on Monday.

Brianna Horn threw all four innings, not allowing a single base hit while striking out 10 batters and walking three. The one run Grundy scored was unearned.

Horn also drove in a game-high six runs at the plate on her two hits. She tripled with the bases loaded in the second inning and then she hit a three-run home run in the third inning as well.

Ella Thompson had a big day at the plate as well, as the leadoff hitter racked up a game-high four hits in all four of her at-bats. She came around to score all four times, and tacked on one RBI.

The Lady Champions showcased a good eye at the plate as well, taking eight walks across four innings. Kloey Carter and Momo Bilbro each walked twice to lead the team. The visitors were also menaces on the basepaths, racking up nine stolen bases in the game.

Cascade scored three runs in the first inning, then powered by Horn’s bat, scored six in the second and three again in the third to take a commanding 12-0 lead into the home half. Grundy would squeak across one run, but when Cascade scored four more in the fourth while holding the hosts scoreless, the run rule came into effect with the Lady Champions winning 16-1.

Cascade improves to 2-10 (1-2) and will host Tullahoma on Tuesday.
