Community High School educator and principal, Robert Ralston, has announced his retirement from Bedford County School System, effective at the end of the school year. He has served as an educator for over three decades-27 of those years as principal of Community High.
Ralston grew up in the Unionville area, attending and graduating from Community School. He told the T-G that his upcoming retirement is bittersweet.
“It is bittersweet. I love this school and all of the things it includes. My time has come to step away and let new energy take over. I plan to continue to support and let it be known my [blood] runs purple and gold. I look forward to what new things lie ahead for both the school and me.”
Ralston said in a school system press release this week that a highlight of his career at Community High was being involved in the school’s building program which includes the first new school, the second and the latest educational wing.
Bedford County Schools Superintendent Tammy Garrett said in a release this week, “Dr. Ralston has left a legacy of positive impact on Community High School and this district. His commitment to students, staff and the community has been unwavering. We are grateful for the leadership, stability and care he has provided for nearly three decades. As principal, he will be greatly missed and we wish him all the best in a well-earned retirement.”
Ralston said he’s been blessed throughout his career by the loving support of his wife, Carla, and sons, Stone and Gage.
