Maddox tosses hat into ring as May 3 county candidate

Eric Maddox said recently that he’s a conservative, common sense-minded person that people can count on. This is why he’s decided to run for the Bedford County Commission District 1 seat.

“Although not a politician, I have a heart to serve my community,” he recently told the Times-Gazette.

Throughout his professional career, Maddox has successfully managed large budgets within business, and this success, he believes, will help him serve the community and County well, if elected during the May 3 primary.

“I believe that a business approach should be taken to managing government activities, and that smart and transparent spending is key to maintaining integrity and taxpayer trust.”

Maddox said that he has been fortunate to work with and lead many successful teams—both large and small; he believes that a team of people can accomplish much more than one individual person.

“I believe that a commissioner should simply be a voice of the community (team of people) who work for the good and betterment of the specific area in which they live.”

In addition to the conservative, common sense approach that he takes to making decisions, Maddox also values how “listening” is the key component to “serving.”

“I feel that having the desire to truly listen and understand the need first will often lead to the solution.” I want our community to be heard and to have a voice regarding decisions that may impact where we work and call home. I am willing to be that voice.”

Maddox adds, “I also feel that there are absolutes within our community that we must take care of . . . well maintained roads and infrastructure, efficiently equipped schools and public safety agencies, along with clean drinking water are just a few of those. We have to take care of our County and the great people that live here.”

The candidate said local governments have to put the people first when spending taxpayer dollars.

“I want to help ensure that happens here,” he said. Eric and his bride of 27 years live on a small farm in Bell Buckle with their 3 sons; they homeschool all 3 boys. Maddox said his sons are also active in sports and play/ compete within BedfordCounty public school system teams and on recreation league baseball. He’s been a league coach in BedfordCounty for many years.

The family attends Victory Baptist Church in Shelbyville. Other interests of his include playing Bluegrass gospel music with his sons; he’s also an avid hunter and fisherman. Maddox said he enjoys the simple life—one filled with walks with his family across their farm.
