UNIONVILLE — An early lead, padded by a six-run fourth inning gave Cascade a 13-3 win over count rival Community on Monday night.
Conner Melson went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs, while starting pitcher Jaxon Sheffield helped his own cause by going 1-for-3 with two RBIS as well.
Cascade knocked in the game’s first run when Sheffield ground out to first, scoring Chance Brown from third base.
Walker Craig padded the lead with a little two-out magic in the third on a ground ball single, scoring two more for a 3-0 Cascade lead.
Community got one back in the bottom of the third following a leadoff walk by Zackary Berman.
He later scored on a Corey Paterick RBI single.
But Cascade blew the game open with a six-spot in the fourth inning.
In the fourth, the Champions put their first six batters on base and connected on a pair of extra base hits, highlighted by Melson’s two RBI double.
Leading 9-2, the Champs tacked on two more runs in the fifth coming on a Noah McGeary RBI and a RBI triple off the bat of Sheffield.
Community struck back in the bottom half of the inning, plating two of their own off RBI singles by Fleming and James Beech, but the Champs went on to add two more runs, one in the sixth and one in the seventh for the final margin of victory.
McGeary, Sheffield, Sawyer Lovvorn and Craig each drove in two runs against the Vikings, while Melson knocked in three to lead the Champs.
Sheffield pitched five strong innings for the Champs and struck out 12 batters to take the win on the mound.
Blaine Paschal got the nod for the Vikings and pitched four innings, allowing nine runs on six hits while striking out seven.
