Shelbyville City Council approved Thursday night during its regular meeting, on second and final reading, the Remington PUD Development off US 41-A North and Union Street.
This 4:2 vote was made despite an unfavorable recommendation several times from the City Planning Commission and several points made recently by fire experts. This development potentially will add nearly 500 dwellings in the area near Jostens.
Voting for the development were City Council members: Marilyn Ewing, Henry Feldhaus, Bobby Turnbow and Betsy Noel.
Voting against the development were: Council members Josh Blevins, William Christie.
Christie said on Thursday, "When I was elected to serve the citizens of the fourth ward ,I promised to vote the will of the people. Representing the residents of green hills ,garden gate and fairlane I received numerous calls and texts asking me for vote no. Now that the subdivision will be moving forward I will assist the builder in any way I can ."
The T-G will have more in this week's print edition, including a lot of public comments.
