With great sadness, Shelbyville Municipal Airport announced Wednesday that Santa’s plane has been grounded for the annual fly-in which was scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12.
“We are saddened to say that due to the increase in COVID-19, and considering the large crowds that have attended in the past, the City of Shelbyville has canceled this year’s Santa Fly-In at Shelbyville Airport, said flight academy instructor Joe Roberts. “This has always been a successful event, allowing the airport to reach out to the community and provide the residents with a fun time.”
Airport manager Paul Perry said his dedicated staff, as always, has worked hard to decorate and prepare the airport for the event. He added that thanks to their efforts, the lobby and outside surroundings “look beautiful” for Christmas.
Perry is extending a warm welcome for families to stop by and enjoy the airport’s decorations. As well, the director and other personnel welcome the opportunity to explain how the facility functions and its value to the community.
