UNIONVILLE — A sluggish second quarter proved to be the ultimate downfall for the Community Middle Vikings on Monday night.
After clinging to a two-point lead after the first quarter, the Vikings managed just two points in the second period and eventually fell, 42-34, despite matching the Rockets in the second half.
Community clung to a 6-4 lead after the first quarter thanks to a pair of baskets by Jaxon Williams, but the Purple and Gold was held to just a single basket in the second period— a basket by Luis Butler—while Westwood charged ahead to a 16-8 halftime lead after piling up 12 points in the quarter.
Community matched Westwood’s 26 second-half points, but couldn’t overcome the sluggish second quarter.
Williams’ 15 points led all scorers while Zac Leathers added nine points, all of which came from beyond the arc.
