The T-G recently received a nice “Letter to the Editor,” which greatly complimented the hospitality of Bedford County.
So we jumped right in to find out a little more about George and Sherrian Moore of Amarillo, Texas.
“My wife Sherrian and I recently visited your area so she could do some genealogical research and locate three cemeteries and family gravestones. Being strangers from Texas, we were unsure as to how we would be received should we need assistance in locating the cemeteries. We were blown away and truly blessed by the warmth and friendliness of the folks who went out of their way to assist us.”
George was kind, saying he didn’t want to “embarrass anyone by mentioning names,” so he just mentioned a few incidents.
“The first was a gentleman she stopped at a roadside stand to seek assistance locating Newton Cannon’s grave. He spent several minutes locating it on a phone app and directing us to the location. This was followed a few minutes later by the warm reception we received from the owner of the property on which the grave was located.”
He said he couldn’t neglect to mention the “valuable assistance” provided by a member of the local historical society and a member of the sheriff’s department who “probably spent 20 minutes locating a cemetery for Sherrian.”
“The final cemetery was located deep in a farm field with the assistance and warm hospitality of the lady who owned the farm, and as it turned out is a distant cousin of Sherrian.”
What a small world from Amarillo to Bedford County.
“This was our first visit to Bedford County and our first boots on the ground genealogical search,” said George.
“Sherrian and I want to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to all of the folks who went out of their way to assist us. Bedford County is truly a special place with special people. You have blessed us and warmed our hearts with your hospitality.”
