Suspect faces burglary, assault charges

Posted
A woman’s alleged actions at a Barksdale Lane apartment early Tuesday led to her arrest on an aggravated burglary charge, Shelbyville police said.
Officers were dispatched to a report of an attempted burglary at 3:30 a.m. They found Katelyn Sales, 23, looking down from her upstairs apartment at the victim’s downstairs unit where a window had been broken.
A resident of the downstairs apartment told police Sales broke a window after repeated unsuccessful attempts to break in, threw her own personal items down and used them to beat on the door, then entered the unit and threatened her. Officers noted Sales was bleeding from a hand cut.
Sales denied breaking the window but alllegedly said she wished she had so police would come question her.
Sales was also charged with aggravated assault. She was being held on $19,500 bond Wednesday.
Evading arrest
An allegedly-speeding driver who said he didn’t know if a Bedford County deputy’s blue lights and siren were meant for him was charged with evading arrest Monday afternoon.
Cody Dillon Patterson, 32, of Tullahoma allegedly said he was in a hurry to reach his workplace when Deputy Shaq Thompson attempted to stop him after being clocked at 80 mph in a 55 mph zone on U.S.41A South near Shipman’s Creek Road.
Patterson allegedly sped away toward Shelbyville. A very short chase was terminated due to the no-pursuit policy followed by Shelbyville and Bedford County law enforcement.
Shelbyville officers were radioed a description of Patterson’s Ford Mustang and stopped him just inside the city limits on Madison Street.
Patterson was also charged with speeding and posted $4,500 bond.
Drug charge
Police confiscated part of a suboxone pill from a man who allegedly ran away from medical personnel checking him for a possible overdose Tuesday morning.
Alec Joseph McGovern, 25, of Gant Road was found by officers, who were told by a bystander that they saw him throw a bag in a nearby trash bin outside a convenience store on North Main Street as police approached. The bag contained multiple syringe caps, police said. McGovern allegedly said he found the bag in the trash bin.
The pill was found in McGovern’s clothing during a search by police.
McGovern was charged with possession of a schedule III drug and paraphernalia and public intoxication. He was being held on $5,000 bond Wednesday.
